Judge Eber C. Gowan

Judge Gowan was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on January 5, 1948.  He is a resident of Reidville, South Carolina.

Judge Gowan attended public schools in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and graduated from Parkland High School in 1966.  He attended two years at Spartanburg Methodist Junior College and one year at Northeast Louisiana State University in Monroe, Louisiana.  He then returned to Reidville to work in his grandfather's business.

Judge Gowan served over seventeen years as a volunteer firefighter for the Reidville Fire Department, resigning as Assistant Fire Chief upon his appointment as a magistrate for Spartanburg County. 

Judge Gowan is very active as a Sunday school teacher and deacon for the Reidville First Baptist Church.  He has been married to the former Sandra Hand since 1967.  They have one son, Christopher Charles Gowan.  Together, they enjoy their small farm and four horses.

Judge Gowan was appointed a magistrate on September 19, 1989, to serve in the Reidville Magistrate Court.  He passed his certification test for magistrates in 1995.  Later that year, he was transferred to serve as a full time magistrate for Spartanburg County in the Spartanburg Magistrate Court.  Judge Gowan is a lifetime member of the South Carolina Summary Court Judges Association.
